Alberto Herrera, MS

Alberto Herrera is a native of Barranquilla, Colombia. Before joining Weill Cornell’s Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis PhD program, he completed his undergraduate studies at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. He obtained his B.S. in Biology and studied the control of Kappa opioid receptor expression in human neuronal cells by hypoxia response elements. He continued this research at Seton Hall University and obtained his M.S. in Biology. After graduating, he worked at the NYU School of Medicine where he studied the molecular and environmental triggers in the progression of cutaneous T cell lymphoma and T cell immunophenotypes in Psoriatic Arthritis. In the Jones Lab, Alberto studies cellular mechanisms conveying resistance in HIV-expressing cells to cytotoxic T-lymphocyte targeting, with a particular focus in immunometabolism and pathways of viral sensing.

Fun fact: Alberto likes playing outdoor sports and going on hikes.
